My three-plate colour etchings and painterly monotypes are primarily concerned with exploring the landscape or cityscape. I make visual sense of the scene before me by finding and simplifying the shapes, exaggerating the natural patterns and rhythms, and describing the colour, using my own personal interpretation. Within the finished work, I hope to create an atmospheric and individual response.

Since my early teens, when I discovered the work of Juan Gris the Cubist, who made his still lifes with torn and cut segments of French newspapers and bits of frayed wine label, I have been fascinated by collage. Much of my work is inspired by the coastal landscape of North Cornwall. The Polly Joke abstracts are a series of pictures made from re-cycled canvas, sand and debris found on Polly Joke beach near Crantock.

Welcome to my website showcasing examples of my work. A graduate of Glasgow School of Art, I lived and worked in South East London for over 25 years. I have recently moved to the Scottish Borders and the beauty of my new surroundings is inspiring a new body of work, which I will be uploading to this site in due course. Please bear with me over this period of transition. I undertake commissions of all kinds, including portraits.
